Multimedia from Malty Media no.4

It has come to our attention that some people would like to attend but Wednesday is not a good night, for reasons of choir and/or cricket practice and/or small children, so we've uploaded an excerpt from our most recent event. It's a half-hour 128kbs mp3 largely showcasing our DJ 'prowess', but with a couple of our own tunes tossed in. The file has been edited to get as much stuff in as possible, but no enhancements were made. All natural, all artificial.

The highlight is probably the bit where Elvis performs 'You've lost that loving feeling' over Douglas Lilburn's electronic swansong, Soundscape with Lake and River (1979).

You can either download the full file (26.5MB) or listen using the widgety whatsit below. If you don't have broadband, er, sorry about that.

The set order is something like this:

  • Japanese new age from the 80s, courtesy of the intriguingly named Interior
  • an Aquaboogie work in progress
  • a recording of a frog pond in Vietnam
  • a Jet Jaguar number, 'Red', which'll be on his Monotonik EP release
  • the aforementioned Lilburn / Presley surprise,
  • Irresistible Force's 'The Lie In King'
  • Pierre Omaar's 'Fast Jet To Belize'

Which is ignoring all the additional field recordings, stupid hilarious vocal samples and, of course, echoes.

Also, in case you haven't yet attended a Malty Media performance, here's a couple of grainy camera phone pics of two guys playing on laptops:

I think this picture truly captures the visceral energy that we bring to our performance... This pic was taken by Miss S. Law.

Malty Media in performance @ Malty Media 3

This magnificent photographic study was taken by our good friend Mr. D. Ritchie at Malty Media no. 3. Again, you'll note that Katipo was near incandescent from the heat generated by our storming performance. I may have a bit of a complex, but I can't help noticing that I look like a cross between an orangutan and noted Welsh comedian Griff Rhys-Jones.
